Swiftkey, the popular alternative keyboard on Android gets a new major feature. The feature is base on "artificial neural network", which according to them improves word prediction on our smartphone keyboards thus pushing the intelligence of our virtual keyboards to a next level. Nowadays, our smartphone keyboards are base on an "n-gram" model, where word prediction is base on the most used word statically. However here, the neural keyboard will understand the nature of each words in every sentence to suggest the most relevant word. Swiftkey gives the following sample sentence "I'll meet you at the ..." then the n-gram model will suggest "moment" because "at the moment" is a term commonly used in English. The new model goes on suggest names of places as "airport", "hotel" or "office" because it understood that it was this type of word that was necessary to add more meaning to the phrase . Swiftkey said to have completely rearchitecture the keyboard enabling the developpers to add more functionalities base on this technology in the future. The update is already available but only in english.
