The Xbox One S has been announced at the E3 conference of Microsoft and has been released August 2. With this, Microsoft relies on 2 things : it smaller size and it 4K videos. Let's see together what this new machine from Microsoft has to offer to us. The Xbox One S comes with a more simplify design than it predecessor the Xbox One thanks to it less finishes and also above all it is smaller. Part of the top surface of the device is now pierce with holes unlike what was present on the Xbox One. We can also identifie the fan on top of it. On the front is the Xbox logo that is now the power/eject button. The third USB port has been relocated and is now on the front instead of it to be on the side of device as before. The back of the device where all the ports are found has been redesigned and gives to us something more clean. As usual, we found the power port that has been redesign, 2 HDMI ports (in and out), 2 USB ports, an infrared port for an infrared blaster accessory, an optical audio output, an ethernet port and a kengsiton port to lock the device. However it goes without reminding that openning the device will make you loose the warranty cover. The only diffrence here is the absence of the kinect port. Instead you'll have to buy a kinect adapter that will connect to the USB port and also to the power supply. The controller of the Xbox One S has been slightly redesign and now has a texture added to it back improving it grip. Also, this controller now features Bluetooth with a longer range allowing it to be connected to other devices like a PC. It also features a 3.5mm jack to connect a headset or earpieces. The Xbox One S features an Ultra HD bluray and 4K video streaming and HDR. however to benefit from HDR you'll have to have a tv that's compatible with HDR 10. Same goes for the 4K you'll have to have a tv that's 4K and that is extremely expensive and is not really necessary to play videogames. Also take in account that the Xbox One S is only compatible with 4K bluray movies but not with 4K videogames. You'll have to wait for the next gen consoles. The software experience on both the Xbox One and One S is the same except Cortana that makes it entry on the Xbox. However to use her you'll have to use a headset. On the performance side, the Xbox One S is slightly more performant than the Xbox One. Now the real question is should we buy it ? That depends on your current situation. If you're already the pocessor of an Xbox One, then there's no need buying this consol as the only new thing it brings is 4K bluray movies and videos streaming but no support for 4K videogames like Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 etc. However is you don't have an Xbox One and you were planning to buy an Xbox One S, then yes I'll recommend you to buy this gaming console. However, I'll most likely advice you to wait for the upcomming Xbox from Microsoft known as Projetc Scorpio and is coming next year and this time will support 4K videogames. One really good thing about this device is it price. It is avalaible at 399$ (181,545FCFA) for the 2TB version, 349$ (158,795FCFA) for the 1TB version and 299$ (136,045FCFA) for the 500GB version. It is not yet officially available in Africa but you can still order from Xbox website using Kemistore and MallforAfrica.
