Corning says that the Gorilla Glass 5 has been tested in laboratories where smartphones have been released facedown. The Gorilla Glass 5 has been made to resist to everyday fall thus distinguishing it from it predecessors. Cornind has made a global study in which it estimates that 85% of smartphone owners have drop their phones at least one time last year and 60% of these falls have been made between the shoulders and the waste leading to a fall of about 1.6m. Corning has also expressed it wish to make thinner glasses. Generally the thickness of smartphone's glasses vary between 0.3 mm to1mm but the GG5 will measure between 0.1mm to 0.2mm thus allowing smartphones and wearables to be thinner while retaining the same resistance. The deliveries of the GG5 has already started and manufacturers will start equipping their terminals in the upcoming months.
