Google Plus, Google's first social network was a failure. However, the company wants to retry this with a new social network like feature that will be added to YouTube. According to VentureBeat, this new feature is calle Backstage and will add more functionalities to YouTube such as the ability for users to share texts, links, surveys, pictures, messages just like a classical social network. YouTube already comprises more than 1billion subscribers and itself already behave like a social network with the ability post comments, share videos, like videos and the YouTube pages system. However YouTube's structure will be maintained as backstage will just be added as a complement to YouTube. The feature may be for a first time roll out only to celebrities/popular YouTube content creators so as to get the first feedbacks about the usefulness of the new feature from them. With this, Google can expect to best compete against giants like Facebook who is already stepping on Google's toes by proposing it videos directly in it app.
